Class size is one of the hottest topics in education - and for good reason. We all know that small groups create the ideal environment for adults to meet children where they are, introducing new ideas and activities at just the right level for each individual. So why should summer camp be any different?
At Elmwood our mission is for each child to discover, celebrate and be who they are supposed to be. That’s why we keep our groups intentionally small. With fewer campers in each group, every child is truly known, nurtured, and valued for exactly who they are. It’s in these small groups that kids grow, explore, and thrive.
Over the years, Elmwood has expanded in so many exciting ways. New activities, program areas, and endless opportunities for campers to discover. But through it all, what has remained constant is our commitment to small groups for all our campers.
Why? Because we see the magic of small groups every single day. They allow for personal attention and genuine encouragement. They give campers the confidence to try something new, the chance to strengthen their social muscles, and the space to shine in their own unique ways.
With fewer campers per group, counselors can really tune in — noticing when someone needs a little encouragement, celebrating small victories, and making sure everyone’s included in the fun. It’s in these small, connected groups that the biggest growth truly happens.
At Elmwood, we know that small groups make a big difference. Whether campers are sharing stories at lunch, teaming up to build a rocket, or figuring out how to conquer the ropes course, their small group “home base” is where the real connections happen. In these groups, kids find their voice, cheer each other on, and realize they’ve all got something special to offer.
Our campers aren’t faces in a crowd - they’re part of a family. Come visit us at Elmwood and experience what small-group magic looks like in action!
