What a week at Elmwood! We had five glorious days of sunshine, exciting trips, amazing times spent with friends, and so much more.

All the campers absolutely loved cheering on their counselors at Counselor Idol this Monday! The multiple duets were based on Disney songs, and it was inspiring to see many staff members stepping out of their comfort zones and get up on the stage in front of everyone.

The rest of the week was quite busy with out-of-camp trips, hikes, the end of Upper Village Intensives and of course Silly Sock Day!

Stepping Stones News:

Naturally, our Stepping Stones had another busy and fun week at Elmwood! Their weeks here just keep getting better and better. Our three-year old campers enjoyed learning all about gardening this week! They learned how to take care of plants, put them in their own planters and could not be more excited to take them home! While they always love running around, playing games and learning new skills at ballpark, they also had some calming movement at yoga this week where they practiced different yoga stances using themselves and even using a partner for a few moves!

Our four-year-old campers had high spirits while singing and dancing with Anne this week, but they absolutely loved going to gymnastics to learn how to walk across the balance beam, continue practicing their tumble rolls, and of course jumping on the tumble track. In art, they used sand to create their very own sand art masterpieces!

The highlight for our kindergarten campers was definitely K-adventure day on Thursday where campers learned what it means to be a “big kid” at Elmwood. They kicked off the day with a counselor-led K morning meeting on the drama deck where counselors performed and expressed what they all wanted to be when they grew up. Throughout the day, campers enjoyed dancing on the drama deck, making pinch pots at studio, eating in the main lunch area and playing Capture the Flag at A&W.

Lower Village News:

How could this not have been the best week yet for our lower village campers? Fun trips, multiple hikes and tons of great in-camp activities made this a week that will never be forgotten. On Tuesday, our first-grade campers went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Westchester Sandbox Theater. They loved the interactive show and enjoyed their adventure around the theater.

This week, Elmwood’s second-graders participated in the circus specialty. Circus specialists came to camp to teach the campers circus tricks including diablo, juggling, tight rope, devil sticks, plate spinning and rola bola. For the final day of the specialty Carolyn, Morgan, Becca and Adam led their campers to the Westchester Circus Arts Big Top Extravaganza to see all they had learned this week under the big tent. The best part was that the circus specialists who taught this week were also in today’s show!

Lower Village Clubs included Color the Rainbow Crafts, Woodworking: Plinko Marble Game, Penny Power Science, Ballet Everyday, Harry Potter Club, Super Sailboats, EWD Sports 360, Pokemon Club, Archery, Cooking Comfort Food and Ultimate Ninja Warrior.

Upper Village News:

After five phenomenal weeks in League, Soho, Discovery and Performance the intensives finale arrived on Thursday. It was, without a doubt, the best day of the summer yet for our Upper Village Campers!

After five intense weeks of our League Intensive, all the teams participated in a friendly league superbowl for the championship title! Each camper played with great energy and enthusiasm and also exemplified wonderful sportsmanship. The 2019 League 1:00 champion is the Black Team, and the 2019 League 2:30 champions is also the Black Team! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

The Soho intensive took a trip to the Botanical Gardens. After five weeks of learning and creating art and discussing nature-themed art, campers loved being able to take their knowledge and familiarity to observe it in real life.

The campers who were involved in the Discovery Intensive took a trip out of camp to go to the New York Hall of Science. Campers spent the day exploring how planes are built and how aerodynamics allows them to fly. They flew jet planes in a tall flight simulator and moved water using water wheels and screws while learning about hydro dynamics. The also built epic goofball mazes while learning about how to fight the force of gravity.

Lastly, our Performance Intensive campers, who have been practicing and rehearsing all summer long, concluded their intensive with an absolutely incredible performance called The Show Must Go On. The singing, dancing and acting that was performed on stage was remarkable, and we are all unbelievably proud of all involved.

Upper Village Clubs included Make a Mess Art, 9 in The Air, Ooey Gooey Fun, Cooking Comfort Food, Super Secret Spy Training, Non-Stop Soccer and Archery.

Seniors:

While the seniors continue to love participating in their majors, they also are loving partaking in some regular activities on camp! This week, they enjoyed exploring and running around Sky Park, playing street games and competing in gaga. A few of them even got to learn how to shoot arrows at archery! Although their trip to Camel Beach was postponed on Wednesday due to a bit of rain, they were luckily able to reschedule it for Thursday! They all had such a great time going on all of the water rides and slides. It was definitely a great way for the campers to feel refreshed in the hot weather we had on Thursday!

We wish all of our families and staff an wonderful weekend. We can’t wait to see you on Monday!
